The Inglaterra Hotel was inaugurated on
December 23, 1875, and has welcomed such
illustrious guests as Sarah Bernhardt and María
Félix, famous ballerina Anna Pavlova, poets
Julián del Casal and Rubén Darío, singers Enrico
Caruso, Imperio Argentina and José Mujica,
playwrights Federico García Lorca and Jacinto
Benavente, British politician Winston Churchill
and bullfighter Luis Mazzantini.
Due to its architectural, cultural and historical
values, the Inglaterra Hotel was declared a
National Monument, a condition with which the
aforementioned Hotel Nacional de Cuba was
also distinguished.

managers have maintained contact with collaborators,
guests and tour operators, and it is ready to begin
international operations.
A symbol of history, culture and Cubanness, the Hotel
Nacional has hosted hundreds of celebrities from the
arts, sciences and politics. Its rooms have witnessed the
visit of public figures such as Winston Churchill, Frank
Sinatra, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, scientist
Alexander Fleming, countless European heads of state
and monarchs, among others.
Finally, the Inglaterra Hotel, the oldest in the Cuban
capital that is still in operation, has also kept receiving
travelers in quarantine and at the same time has made
improvements that have benefited this establishment.
Among the most significant are the restoration of the
lobby, with its classic Seville tiles and its refined carpentry.
